DECK RESTORATION
With over 10 years experience maintaining all types of timber, especially in the Northern Rivers, we refinish timber homes, decks and balustrades. All surfaces get prepared via sanding or pressure cleaning and re-oiled using a timber substrate appropriate to your needs.

Deck Sanding
To sand a deck traditionally has been a painful process of counter sinking nails, just plain old getting angry at the raised screw heads if you have them, then sanding aggressively a deck down about 3mm’s to restore the grained or worn planks. Deck Sanding and Oiling have a much more refined process utilizing a specialist German made sanding machine with a high speed brush system. Not only does it only remove the old coating or greying timber – and not your precious hardwood timber – it is designed to roll straight over the top of any raised nail or screw heads. The deck sanding processes and equipment utilized by all our workmen are second to none, relatively quiet and encompass a vacuum system for reduced dust pollution. Nothing makes an outdoor space more enjoyable than the warmth and cleanliness of a great deck in good nic.

Deck Cleaning
With thousands of call-outs to homes all over the Northern Rivers, the team have seen it all when it comes to deck cleaning. Unfortunately or possibly by design, there is such a confusing outlook on which products to use on the hundreds of different oils and substrates available on the marketplace. When it comes to deck cleaning, we have focused our efforts on two of Australia’s most reputable brands, each with a selection of cleaners to suit every application. In conjunction with the correct timber soap or acidic cleaner, we have developed a modified pavement cleaner connected to an adjustable hot water pressure cleaner to make doing the seemingly impossible, super-efficient. With a heavy and blunt jet of water, rather than a sharp and scaring set-up (evident in many decks with swirls and marks all over them), our cleaning techniques are a fantastic way to restore, or prepare a deck that fundamentally has it’s coating intact.

Deck Oiling
With much mis-information within hardware stores and property maintenance groups, we have become educators over time, in order to put our customer base back on firm ground when it comes to deck oiling. When it comes to what you want to spend your money on, it’s good to keep it really simple. Either you want a layer coating or a penetrating oil when oiling your deck. The benefits of layer coatings are their ability to look uniform and often they are easier to wash and maintain – but left for too long will always require a sanding back to restore in full. Penetrating oils, whilst seemingly easier to apply and giving a more traditional decking appearance, tend to always grey-off prematurely and cause hassles when it comes to cleaning, maintaining uniformity and prepping before re-oiling. Generally, it’s going to be cheaper to go with what’s been used previously (unless it needs stripping of course), but we advise you on which product to choose according to the above criteria and the look and feel wanted by your decking oil.

Pressure Cleaning
With the best pressure cleaning equipment available, including but not limed to 20L/minute hot water pressure cleaners, we often get requests to do a little or lot of extra cleaning whilst we’re on site. We’re in the business of supporting our clients and often the extra value one can get out of a few hours of pressure cleaning is incredible. To change the feel of a home or patio etc, pressure cleaning the overhead beams, tin roofing or balustrades is often all it takes. Furthermore, when removing mold spores and grime from associated decking areas, it supports the wonderful work we can do with your deck by increasing the longevity of the finishes used. Cold water pressure cleaning for $115/hr including GST and hot water pressure cleaning at $154/hr including GST is available as an add-on to any job big or small – or even as a standalone (with a $275 including GST minimum charge).

Before & After
Kath was very concerned about her deck that was incredibly old and had been painted with a very stubborn oil and once with a type of decking paint. With several days of sanding, a strong chemical clean and several coats of oil, the whole home transformed in conjunction with some pressure cleaning. A great example of putting some love into an old home, especially prior to sale like Kath did and it paying off big time.
